Pop Up Recycling & Refuse facility
This year we are again supporting the Resilient Russell Pop-up recycling and refuse facility for boaties at the end of Russell Wharf. It will be there for just over 2 weeks starting Friday 26 December and finishing on Sunday 11 January 2026.
Hours of operation
Daily from 0800 – 11.00 and 2.00 – 5.00 pm
Refuse ambassadors will be on hand during those hours to assist with the recycling. Payment for refuse bags can be made at the Russell Information Centre on the wharf. They will give you a ticket once paid, just bring this to the Ambassador as proof of payment.

We’d like to thank all the partners in this project which makes it a success.
- Resilient Russell organise the service for the community and our visitors.
- Far North Holdings and the Wharf Trust make a matching contribution each year to pay the wages for the refuse ambassadors.
- Hones Garden take the recycling from town to the Russell rubbish and recycling station
- Northland Waste provide free bins and dispose of refuse for us
- City Care Service, FNDC’s contractor collect the general waste bags from the wharf for us
